Albert Korir edged fellow Kenyan runner Ishmael Bushendich by two seconds to win the Vienna City Marathon in chilly and windy conditions on Sunday. The pair entered the final kilometer shoulder to shoulder before the 23-year-old Korir accelerated and set a personal best of 2 hours, 8 minutes and 40 seconds for his first career marathon victory. Daniel Wanjiru beats Kenenisa Bekele to Win London Marathon

Daniel Wanjiru dug deep as he held off favourite Kenenisa Bekele to claim victory in the London Marathon elite men’s race. It was the biggest victory of his career, having previously won the 2016 Amsterdam Marathon. Ethiopian great Bekele entered the race as the overwhelming favourite but his challenge appeared to be faltering as he slipped back during the middle stages of the race. Mary Keitany Breaks Marathon World Record in London

Kenya’s Mary Keitany on Sunday clocked 2 hours, 17 minutes and 01 second to break women’s world marathon record with victory at London Marathon. Keitany broke the 14-year-old record of 2:17:42 set by Briton Paula Radcliffe at the same course by 41 seconds. The feat was enough to also set a new national record. Radcliffe won the 2003 London Marathon in 2:15:25 but the time was scaled down to 2:17:42 after the Briton used pacesetters in the last kilometres. Kenya’s Geoffrey Kirui won the 121st Boston Marathon on Monday, pulling away from American Galen Rupp with about two miles to go to win in an unofficial time of 2 hours, 9 minutes, 37 seconds.
