The 2017 edition of the Boston Marathon is happening today. Hosted in the city of Boston, Massachusetts, USA, the race will take place today at 3:50pm Kenyan time.

Among the elite men running in the race are Wilson Chebet (Personal Best 2:05:27, set in 2011), Geoffrey Kirui (2:06:27, 2016), Sammy Kitwara (2:04:28, 2014), Wesley Korir (2:06:13, 2012), Emmanuel Mutai (2:03:13, 2014) and Daniel Salel, who will be making his marathon debut.

The women will be represented by Joyce Chepkirui (2:24:11, 2015), Gladys Cherono (2:19:25, 2015), Valentine Kipketer (2:23:02, 2013), Edna Kiplagat (2:19:50, 2014), Brigid Kosgei (2:24:45, 2016) and Caroline Rotich (2:23:22, 2012).

Defending Champions Lemi Berhanu Hayle (men) and Atsede Baysa (women) both of Ethiopia will be returning. All athletes and organizers hope security will be top notch in this year’s edition of the event. In 2013, about three hours after the winners crossed the line, two explosions occurred within the final 200m of the finish point, killing 3 people and injuring over 260 spectators.
