The world’s anti-doping authorities are investigating fresh claims that an official of Kenyan athletics was willing to take bribes of £10,000 (KES 1.325m) in order to give athletes prior warning of drug tests.
The official, Major Michael Rotich, was secretly filmed by a German broadcaster and a British newspaper allegedly making the offer. Major Rotich, however, denies any wrongdoing, saying he went along with the secret meeting because he was trying to ‘protect’ the athletes.
The Chief Executive of Kenya’s Anti-Doping Agency, Mr. Japhter Rugut, has promised the matter will be investigated. Athletics Kenya is yet to comment on the matter.
